I'm away

There will be no updates til I come back to school.  I am away due to a concussion. Hope to see my little friends soon. :)

Friday!

Here's to hoping that everyone has a great weekend!  Remember that there is Family Skating at the ARC every Friday starting tonight!

Today we worked on five and ten frames and dots patterns. They are getting much better at this! :)

Next week we are going to be looking at Caralyn Buehner's writing!  She and her husband have written and illustrated some great books!  She writes some wonderful adventures about Snowmen!

Please have your child write their name for you.  We are really working on having everyone being able to write their name.  It is a challange as letters are hard to form!

Thursday...I was not in the room yesterday!

Hi everything...

I was in the office yesterday so that is why there was no blog entry or tweets.  Hope everyone had a great Wednesday though.

Today we spent a lot of time in math class looking at probability...we played the game called...CLEAR THE BOARD!  Here is a link to it!

This is a great game...you just need dice and some form of counter!  The kids loved it.  I changed the rules depending on the level of the students.  :)

We will continue reading more Black Lagoon books.  I will let the kids pick today!  Ask your child if they can remember what book we read! 

Today we continued to work in small groups for writing!  It is working great since the groups are working on different things according to need!  :) 

Tuesday...it's a wet one out there!

So the children really need those extra mitts right now.  They all have wet mitts by the time recess is over, so please remember to put extras in their bags.  :)  Thank you.

Today I did echo reading with some children and they are doing well.  We are looking for words we know when we are reading.  So with echo reading the adult reads the sentence and then the child repeats it, you do this for the whole book and then the child re-reads the whole book after back to the adult.  Then try to see if you can get the child to find words...so...Can you find the word go?  The children really like this game at school and they look forward to it when we are reading.

We are reading another Black Lagoon book today! 

We are also working on our writing right now too!  We are really trying to get the children to see the purpose of writing.  When children start to write they don't really know why they are writing.  We will be breaking up into writing groups so that each child is in a group that suits their needs.  When Ms. Hebert is here that gives us an opportunity to have more adults help with this task. 

Monday...we all seem to be tired!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Thank goodness for warmer weather.  The children are enjoying going outside to play!  But in this weather things get very WET!  So please remember extra mitts, as they are very hard to dry if we can't get to the dryer. 

In math we ar still looking at probability.  We used dice today and we were seeing if we could roll one number more than the others.  It was great for the children to see that their rolls did not look like their neighbours rolls.  The sheet that came home in the homebag was the sheet your child recorded with.  They really had fun with this game. This game is a warm up for our next game called Clear The Board...it is a game from Shari Sloane.  If you would like to check out her math games follow the link below.  She has great stuff!

Mike Thaler is still a big hit!  Today we are reading ... 

These books are great for visualization and for retelling.  Both of these are a focus for us right now!

Today we all worked together to make snowman cookies.  So please look in your child's lunch kit for a cookie to eat at home. 

We had a lot of children exploring today.  We had people building houses, building boats that float out of plasticine, and race tracks in the sandbox. It was great to see all the inquiry happening today!

The children loved popcorn day today!

Tomorrow we have popcorn for sale at the school for $1.00.  Hope the kinders like the popcorn, there are lots of great flavours. 

The Kinders are doing a great job getting back into routine.  They are working well together and learning a lot at the same time. 

Remember to send in extra mitts in your child's school bag, they play a lot in the snow and sometimes the mitts don't dry really well before the next recess.

We are still looking at probability in math.  The concept of likely and unlikely is tricky for little ones.  So we will keep practising. 

Mike Thaler was a hit yesterday and today we are reading another of his books.



We are also going to be adding a writing sample to our writing wall today!  It is amazing the progress they are making.

Wednesday...cold again!

Hi all!  Well this cold weather keeps on coming.  Here's to hoping for outdoor recess again! 

Today we worked and played very hard.  We worked on five frames and dot patterns again, while using a spinner which we use sometimes when talking about probability.  It was a great fun activity.  So if you see sheets of patterns with five squares and some colouring, then that is from math today. 

We also had Reading Buddies today!  It seems like we haven't seen those big friends for awhile now.  It was great fun to practise our reading with our buddies!

We are also looking at Mike Thaler Books.  They are so much fun; the children will love the series.  We will be looking at retelling the books.  We will practice retelling the story by using the pictures. Using the pictures in the book is a great way to tell a story.


We are missing alot of snuggle up and read books.  Can you please check your homes for some books and send any in that may be laying around?  We would really appreciate it.  Thank you.

Welcome Back!

Wow what a windy day! Too bad we couldn't get outside today, but it was still nice to get back to school and see all our friends. 

In math we are investigating probability.  We are using the words likely and unlikely.  So today we played a little game with plastic insects.  We were trying to figure out what colour we were more likley or unlikely to pick.  We had a good time!

We are looking at a snowman poem today and we will be creating our own snowman using the clues in the poem.  It will be interesting to see what the students create from their visualization.

Please remember to keep up with home reading, sight word practise, and the letter and sound rings.  We are still plugging away at these skills.
